Although today, the Kirloskar Group stands as an enormous industrial empire, it has emerged from a simple beginning. Laxmanrao Kashinath Kirloskar, the founder of the Kirloskar Group was born on June 20th 1869, in a small village, Gurlahosur in Belgaum district. Initially a painting enthusiast, he later took up mechanical drawing later he set up his first venture in 1888. Laxmanrao strongly believed that agricultural implements must fit the milieu they are used in, which led him to manufacture Kirloskar?s pioneering products - fodder cutter in 1901 and India?s first iron plough in 1904. India?s first iron plough from the Kirloskar Group not only became an instrument of wealth for an entire society but also started an entire revolution in India. In 1910, Laxmanrao started his ?Farm Implements Factory? in an arid waste land by the side of a renowned railway station, named Kundal Road. The station is now called as Kirloskarwadi. At Kirloskarwadi, Laxmanrao realized his yet another dream of building his own industry and community for his employees. He strongly believed in the theory of creation of wealth.
